Tough minutes for Arnold in Basel

The spectators certainly didn’t see the best Arnold Gjergjaj of all time. Arnold seemed to have problems with the distance, but in combination with a very difficult and tough opponent, he offered the audience a thrilling fight. Dennis Lewandowski had traveled to Basel with a palmares of 23 fights and 18 victories.

In the first round, Arnold moved a lot and tried to land his hard hooks, while the German boxed the typical German boxing style. From the second round onwards, Lewandowski took over the action in the ring. Although Arnold hit some explosive hands, the German, who weighed over 120 kg and had a solid guard, had no problems and also landed good shots.

From the third round onwards, the fight tilted in the German’s favor. He boxed cleverly, continuously applied pressure and effectively countered Arnold’s attacks.

In the fourth round, there was a typical scene in which Arnold landed a hard punch, but Lewandowski immediately responded with hard punches. It was obvious that the German’s heavy weight played a decisive role in this fight. Towards the end of the fourth round, Dennis Lewandowski landed four good punches in succession.

From the fifth, certainly from the sixth round, the fight began to turn in Arnold’s favor. He concentrated on his strengths, used his jab and moved more, making it harder for the German to constantly be within striking distance. The last two rounds clearly belonged to Arnold, who regained his energy with the loud support of the crowd.

In the end, the judges unanimously decided in favor of Arnold Gjergjaj’s victory with scores of 94:96 from Roland Meier, 93:97 from Benjamin Jagel and 93:97 from Rene Schlachter. As always, Arnold thanked the audience and sponsors in an extremely friendly manner before taking his leave.
